Hello there! I am super excited to share with you some information about Couples Counseling Fast-Track. This is a new service that just started this week.

For a little context, you may want to review my blog I’m new to counseling and confused where to start! What to expect in couples counseling at MoxiePsychology Legacy. This explains the traditional couples counseling process at my office (attending counseling once a week or once every two weeks for 45-minutes per session).

What is Couples Counseling Fast-Track? It’s an option for couples who are ready to dive in and get to work. Each appointment is 3 hours in length.

Couples Counseling Fast-Track is especially beneficial at the beginning of counseling. Why? After the intake (not on Fast-Track), there are three 45-minute sessions (spaced out one per week) where the couple learns about healthy and unhealthy communication. During these sessions they begin to practice and use the tools they have learned with support from the therapist. It’s not really until the fifth appointment that couples have the basic tools, knowledge, and practice to start successfully working through each of the issues that brought them in. These initial training sessions are easily condensed in a Fast-Track appointment so you can more quickly get started on working through what you came to counseling for.

Furthermore, an accelerated program is helpful at the beginning of counseling because I find that when couples first start they usually need a lot of feedback and support as they work on strengthening their relationship and their communication. However, as time goes on, couples find they need less and less of my feedback and support because they are successfully taking the reins! If you are a couple that would like to more quickly get to a place where you are successfully handling issues and disagreements on your own, Couples Counseling Fast-Track might be for you.

Couples counseling fast-track may be a good fit for you if:

  • You have had some relationship problems and it’s reached a crisis. You realize you definitely want and need counseling, and you need help right now.
  • Maybe you and your partner are happy with your relationship, but you would like to do just 2 or 3 Fast-Track appointments (and then be finished) for some communication and relationship coaching to help keep your relationship strong and healthy.
  • Maybe you have done couples counseling before and you didn’t like how right as you both were getting into a good discussion in your appointment, the session would suddenly end at 45-minutes. You didn’t like leaving issues “hanging” and would have preferred finishing your discussions with your partner all at once instead of stretching it out over two to four sessions (meaning two to four weeks).
  • You are on the traditional counseling route, but you both hit a bumpy spot and you need some extra support from your therapist. In this scenario, you can always schedule two counseling sessions back to back, or set up a 3 hour Fast-Track session. The scheduling is flexible to meet your needs.
  • You have done couples retreats or weekend workshops in the past, and you liked the condensed format. Maybe you and your partner would rather meet once a week for a Fast-Track appointment, and then be finished with your work after a month.
  • Due to your work schedule you cannot meet every week. You want to make steady and quick progress even though your work schedule does not allow for weekly appointments.

Couples counseling fast-track is flexible:

  • Schedule sessions at your own pace.
  • We can tailor counseling to fit your needs. For example, maybe you are ready to make some big changes and grow, and so you schedule a Fast-Track Couples Counseling Intake Session (3 hours). The next week you schedule one more Fast-Track session (3 hours). After that you switch to 45-minute sessions once a week, and then as things progress and as you both are feeling better, you schedule a 45-minute session every other week.

Summary:

  • Three different couples counseling appointment length options to best meet your needs: One 45-minute session once a week, two 45-minute sessions scheduled back to back, or a 3 hour Fast-Track appointment.
  • Do what works best for you and your partner in regards to your preferences, budget, and schedule. Evaluate what approach you might like better (a faster pace like you would experience at a couples retreat or if a once a week 45-minute session sounds just right).
  • Please call or email me with any questions. Let me know if you are not sure what approach might work best for you and we can come up with a plan together.
