This is turning out to be quite the week (and it's only Monday)! Our lives are changing drastically in a very short period of time due to COVID-19. I want to post some very important business updates so you can best start to plan and integrate all the many changes into your daily lives.
For a nice brief summary of the different terminology being used in preventing and slowing the spread of COVID-19, check out this article here from Johns Hopkins Medicine (1). I will use some of the terms from the article.
My office will remain open; however, there will be the following changes to services until further notice. Below is a summary:
I am transitioning all of my clients to telehealth services in order to implement social distancing and to flatten the curve (1). The Plaza Towers building I am located in is normally a very busy office building with hundreds of people regularly traveling through, and so I want to keep my clients and their loved ones safe. This begins for ALL CLIENTS on Wednesday, 3/18/2020. You can easily and quickly access my online telehealth services (video chat) through the website. Click the "Telehealth" tab to get to the video chat link. No username and password is necessary. The telehealth link is HIPAA compliant and secure; all you need to do is click the link. We can also do phone sessions if you would prefer that option. Please let me know ahead of time if you prefer for me to call you on the phone.
Couples: Please make sure you are both present in the same room for telehealth services. This will be more conducive to working on your communication and relationship dynamics. Thank you!
As we are transitioning over to all telehealth for the time being, please keep in mind two things: privacy and children. When using telehealth services, please find a private place to complete our session. We are discussing your private health care information, so make sure we are talking in a confidential space and not in a public space or in hearing distance of family members. You might even think of putting music or noise machines outside of the room (similar to what we do at our office with our white noise machines).
Also, keep in mind your kids, if applicable. Very often we discuss in counseling some very sensitive information that would not necessarily be appropriate for young kids to hear or to process. When scheduling your sessions with young children in the house, please find someone to watch them if they are at home with you. Thank you!
I will no longer offer afternoon hours because I will be home taking care of my daughter; I know many of you are also making arrangements for your children while the schools are closed. Sessions will now begin at 5 PM and go until 9 PM (last appointment at 8 PM). This begins Wednesday, 3/18/2020.
On an as needed basis I will offer weekend telehealth appointments for current clients. Just call or email me if you cannot meet during weekday evening hours, and I will schedule your appointment during a weekend availability. I want to ensure that all my clients still have access to care when they need it; especially during this stressful time.
Let's all think of our fellow citizens. If we all step up and do our part, we can all work to slow the spread of COVID-19, and to protect the vulnerable and immunocompromised. Our health care workers will be taxed in the coming months and people will get sick, so let's do what we can to make sure that the health care system is not overwhelmed and can provide consistent quality care for all.
My spirits have been brightened by all the wonderful little ways people and businesses have been volunteering the resources they have to help others during this uncertain time. I think we will see the brighter side of humanity through this.
As always, I am so proud to serve the Ozarks area. I am here for you and your families. Thank you for your understanding and patience. Please email or call with any questions or concerns you have. Take care.
